New 2026-27 program offerings at CCP include three teaching degrees and four proficiency certificates in various fields
Sept. 8 marks the first day of classes for the 2026-27 academic year at Community College of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – Today is the first day of classes for the 2026-27 academic year at Community College of Philadelphia. Starting this fall, students can pursue three new teaching degree programs and four new proficiency certificates. With the start of the 2026-27 academic year, the College has introduced degree programs in Middle and Secondary Education – Humanities, Middle and Secondary Education – Math/Science, and Special Education. New certificate options include Digital Story Telling, Intercultural and Global Communication, Social Media Marketing, and Social Research and Analysis.

“Our students deserve an education that prepares them for fulfilling careers, successful transfer opportunities, and a changing economy,” said CCP President Dr. Alycia Marshall. “CCP's new programs reflect the needs of our students and Philadelphia’s workforce, creating relevant pathways to opportunity. As the City’s College, we are committed to ensuring every student has the knowledge and skills to thrive.”

New 2026-27 degree programs:

Middle and Secondary Education – Humanities
Associate in Arts degree, Education and Human Services pathway

This degree will prepare students to teach English, language arts, reading, history, social studies, art, and music at the middle and high school levels. Courses will cover key concepts in humanities and educational theory to help develop a teaching philosophy. Students will also gain hands-on experience working in local classrooms before graduation and prepare to transfer to a four-year university.

Middle and Secondary Education – Math/Science

Associate in Arts degree, Education and Human Services pathway

In this program, students will be prepared to teach the next generation of great thinkers and provide a deeper understanding of the world around us. Students will build a strong foundation in middle and high school-level math and science, while learning educational theory and effective teaching practices to find success in the classroom. This degree prepares students to transfer to a four-year university to earn a teaching certification, and students will gain first-hand experience working in local classrooms.

Special Education

Associate in Arts degree, Education and Human Services pathway

With this degree, students will learn how to create a classroom environment where every learner can thrive. Courses will help students begin to build a meaningful career and prepare to transfer to a four-year institution for a teacher certification or begin in an entry-level role after graduation. Combining in-class instruction in educational theory with hands-on learning in local schools, students will learn to understand student needs and work with families, educators and support staff to aid a variety of educational journeys.

New 2026-27 certificate pathways:

Digital Storytelling proficiency certificate

Liberal Arts and Communications pathway

With this certificate, students can pursue a creative career that combines writing with digital content creation. Students will cultivate skills in writing, reporting, social media, photograph, and digital media production. This program will prepare students for roles in digital marketing, communication and journalism—teaching big-picture thinking for media strategy and helping students use their creative vision to bring any message to life. Some career areas students can consider with this certificate are film, media and editing.

Intercultural and Global Communication proficiency certificate

Liberal Arts and Communications pathway
This certificate was created to accompany a Communication and Media Studies associate degree, teaching students how to create communications for global audiences with diverse values, identities and worldviews. This program will prepare students for careers in multicultural organizations by learning to understand international business, community outreach, media production and public relations. It will also help students take their understanding of media to the next level through critical analysis that factors in the social, political and historical structures shaping our increasingly interconnected world. Some career areas students can consider with this certificate are public relations, producing and directing, news analysis, reporting and journalism.
 

Social Media Marketing proficiency certificate

Liberal Arts and Communications pathway

In this program, students will learn the technical and creative skills to design social media campaigns, measure their success and create engaging narratives. In a digital-first world, this certificate will bolster students’ skills as a Communication and Media Studies major, preparing them for entry-level social media roles in various fields. Some career areas students can consider with this degree are social media marketing strategy, proofreading and copy writing, and desktop publishing.

Social Research and Analysis proficiency certificate

Liberal Arts and Communications pathway

This certificate program teaches students research and analysis techniques to aid in the study of social sciences. Students will develop analytical, statistical, and qualitative reasoning skills for fields like public health, policy, education, social work, and market research. Students will learn through collecting data, communicating research findings and preparing to enter the labor market or transfer to a four-year university. Some career areas students can consider with this education are market research analysis, community health and sociology.
