SUPPORTING SCHOLARSHIPS

Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation Automotive Technology Scholarships

The Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation pledged $150,000 over three years to create scholarships for Automotive Technology students whose financial aid usually does not cover all courses required for graduation. These generous scholarships cover tuition and fees, as well as providing a stipend toward housing, food and transportation costs.

IBX Foundation Doubles Support of Nursing Students with New Healthcare Scholars Initiative

Longtime supporter the Independence Blue Cross Foundation nearly doubled its support of the College’s nursing students this year with its new Healthcare Scholars initiative. The program provides tuition and other support to recent high school graduates entering the nursing profession. Combined with ongoing support under its Nurses for Tomorrow scholarship program, the Foundation gave more than $67,000 for nursing, as well as more than $8,000 for the College’s Office of Collegiate Recovery this year.

Quest for the Best Increases Support for Nursing Scholarships

The Quest for the Best Foundation, which supports health education and community engagement, has funded nursing scholarships at the College since 2020. In 2023, they continued their support and increased their funding to $50,000.

Joan M. Wismer Scholarship for Pharmacy Technician Certification Studies

The Joan M. Wismer Scholarship is the first scholarship designated for students in the Pharmacy Technician training program, which has been offered at the College for more than 15 years. It is innovative in that it provides low-income students in a noncredit, career-oriented program with a cost of living stipend in addition to the cost of tuition and textbooks. Now in its second year, the annual $50,000 grant enables 14 students per year to afford the training and achieves the Wismer Foundation’s goal of encouraging pilot initiatives, supporting educational programs, and supporting the field of medicine.

Sam and Kate Sidewater Foundation Scholarship

Since 2020, the Sam and Kate Sidewater Foundation has funded scholarships for students pursuing short-term workforce training programs to support Philadelphia and its workforce. The Sidewater Scholarship stands as a pioneering program at the College, expressly designed to aid students in workforce development certificate programs, such as Advanced Manufacturing, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Nurse Aide, Bookkeeping and more.

“As a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and PA Army National Guard, I developed a background in communications and avionics. I began my civilian career in building automation and worked my way into an engineering role. I have always had a fascination with fabrication and manufacturing and decided to take steps in that direction by enrolling in Community College of Philadelphia’s Advanced Manufacturing program. Receiving the Sidewater Scholarship has helped me accelerate my goals and has alleviated the stress of paying tuition on top of other bills. This course will allow me to apply the practical knowledge and theory I have to help solve real-world problems while providing a future for me and my family.”
