Celebrationg 60 Years

Celebrating 60 Years

Community College of Philadelphia is celebrating its 60th anniversary throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. Since 1965, generations of Philadelphians have attended CCP in pursuit of their academic and career goals. In its inception, Community College of Philadelphia's purpose was to serve as a local, affordable alternative to four-year colleges. Through the decades, the institution has become so much more: a strong start to a bachelor’s degree, training for a career change and workforce development, a destination for international students, and a place for community learning.

Looking ahead, CCP will continue to challenge and prepare students to rise from within, paving the way for a stronger Philadelphia with opportunity for all.

Here, you will find stories, social media highlights and 60th anniversary-themed events that help us remember and honor our history while looking forward to the future. We hope you’ll join us in this yearlong celebration!

Black History Month Luncheon and Keynote “Our Song, Our Story: Black Music in America”

Students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate Black History Month on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Winnet Student Life Building, Room S2-19, as we explore the transformative journey of Black music in America. This interactive event traces the evolution from spirituals and the blues to jazz, soul and hip-hop—highlighting how Black musicians have used their art as a force for survival, resistance, innovation and joy. Keynote speaker Dr. Walter E. Copeland, a professor in the Division of Business and Technology, will feature a multimedia presentation that honors Philadelphia's significant contributions to Black music history, including The Sound of Philadelphia, The Roots, Patti LaBelle, and today's emerging artists. Whether you're a music lover, history buff, or simply curious, this event invites you to see yourself in the story of America's most influential musical tradition. The complimentary luncheon will feature chicken stew with African seasonings, jollof rice, fried catfish, and sweet potato pie!
