Nurse Aide Training
Begin your career in health care by registering for the Nurse Aide Training program. Classroom lecture, lab skills and clinical practicum will prepare you for employment in long-term care facilities, hospices, assisted living facilities, hospitals and nursing homes. Working under nurse supervision, a nurse aide enjoys extensive daily contact with each patient and is instrumental in updating the nurse on vital information about patient conditions. Training topics include the role and function of a nurse aide, resident rights, nutrition, abuse and neglect prevention, infection control, psychosocial needs, using assistive devices, safety and accident prevention, personal care skills, communication skills, and legal and ethical aspects of long-term care.
Participants will be prepared to sit for the Pennsylvania State Nurse Aide Competency and Training Examination upon completion training. Students must register through Credentia for the state competency and skills exam. This noncredit certificate program provides academic credits that can be used towards specific credit-bearing degree programs upon completion and enrollment in the credit degree program. Requirements
- Communication Skills: This program is taught in English with English textbooks and workbooks. Students must be able to speak, write, and understand English fluently.
- Prospective participants must be at least 18 years old and provide evidence of a high school diploma or GED. For international credential submission, please ensure documents are in English and are accompanied by an official independent equivalency evaluation utilizing a NACES approved credential evaluation service
- Current flu shot if class is between October-March, proof of COVID vaccination
- Participants must also pass a general physical examination; the following document needs to be completed by at physician's office/medical clinic: CCP Health examination form plus tuberculosis test
- Criminal background check. PA State Police criminal background check
- Unexpired government-issued photo identification (Drivers license or Photo ID) with current address
- Students must upload the following documents: Verification of Pennsylvania Residency Form, Attestation of Compliance with PA Act 14 Form, and submit a FBI Background Check report if you have not lived in PA for two consecutive years prior to the start date of the Nurse Aide program. The official residency date is based on current government issued ID.
- The registration deadline is two weeks prior to the start of this class. Registered students must have all documentation completed and uploaded to Electronic Forms prior to the registration deadline. Noncredit Program Refund Policy
Refunds for noncredit programs will be granted if the class is canceled or if you withdraw no later than the day before the first class. Refunds are not available after class begins.
