President’s Picnic Celebrates School Spirit and a New Beginning

Oct 7, 2026

Students and staff filled the Winnet Courtyard on Oct. 6 for food, music, games and community spirit in celebration of a new chapter in CCP’s history with our seventh president, Dr. Alycia Marshall, leading up to her upcoming investiture. Featuring some of Dr. Marshall’s favorite food and activities, the event offered Marshall’s Mozzi Sticks, mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce; Marshall's Milkshakes; in addition to popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and hamburgers. The CCP Dance Team performed for the crowd, and Dr. Marshall joined the students for one song.

The occasion provided an opportunity for Dr. Marshall to connect with several members of the CCP community, and students a chance to take a break in between classes, experience student life at CCP and offer messages to Dr. Marshall.

First-year student Zoe Dawkins saw the picnic as an opportunity to connect with other students. “I would like to meet new people,” said Zoe, who is pursuing the Diagnostic Medical Imaging program.

Rawaa Salih works as a pharmacy technician and is studying Biology, with the goal of becoming a pharmacist. Appreciative of the diversity at the College, Rawaa sees CCP as a way everyone can improve their future. “I would like to see community college keep attracting students from all different parts of the city—working adults, moms—looking for more success in their lives.” Reflecting on the event, Rawaa said, “It’s really fun—a way for students to come together with one another and take a break.”

Bridget Staniszewski, a Respiratory Care Technology student, commented on the festive atmosphere. “We like a good carnival and taking a break from classes.”

“It’s nice to get fresh air, food and mingle with classmates outside of the classroom,” said Katelyn Powell, a Respiratory Care Technology student.

Enjoying the spirit of the day, Ellyona Santiago, studying Business, has a positive outlook CCP’s new chapter and new president. “It’s good to have change,” said Ellyona.

Lion Leader and English student Tyshema Washington wished Dr. Marshall success as president, and added, “I can’t wait to see you more on campus.”

Zahkee Rhodan, a Psychology student, appreciated the opportunity to see the student life on campus. “This makes it feel like a university and community-based.” Zahkee also had a special message for Dr. Marshall: “Thanks for giving me a great college experience.”
