CCP Reapproved as Nursing Center of Excellence

Sep 10, 2026

Community College of Philadelphia's Nursing program is one of 20 in the country to be chosen this year as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing. The College was specifically recognized in the category, "Enhances Student Learning and Professional Development." While the College has held this distinction previously, this is still a tremendous achievement and an important recognition of the quality, impact and excellence of the Nursing program. CCP continues to offer a high quality Nursing program to students looking to pursue their passion, while fortifying the city’s health care system with competent, caring nurses.

This recognition reflects years of dedication, innovation, student-centered practice and unwavering commitment to excellence by our Nursing faculty and staff. This designation validates the outstanding work taking place every day in our classrooms and labs, and through our clinical partnerships and student support efforts. “[This distinction] reflects how faculty continually evaluate the program's effectiveness, respond to the needs of our students and community, and remain committed to excellence in nursing education,” said Dr. Lisa Johnson, head of the Department of Nursing.

“The renewal of the Center of Excellence designation is significant because it serves as external validation that CCP Nursing continues to operate at the highest levels of academic quality and professional practice,” said Dr. Vishal Shah, dean of Math Science and Health Careers. “This accomplishment belongs to all of our full-time and part-time faculty, whose expertise, professionalism and commitment to student success made this possible. Every faculty member has contributed to the culture of excellence that continues to distinguish CCP Nursing on the national stage.”

In addition to being one of only 20 institutions in the country to receive this designation, CCP is also one of only two community colleges to be recognized, the other being Coastal Alabama Community College.

The College is proud to offer students three different options for achieving a degree in Nursing: a traditional A.A. degree path, a post baccalaureate accelerated option and an advanced placement option. All three options prepare students to take the national licensure exam for credentials accepted throughout the United States. Nursing students learn legal and ethical aspects of the profession; use case studies to analyze and establish information related to patient care; work in hospitals, long-term care and community-based facilities; and use outcome measures to critically assess situations and develop treatment plans.
