Daniel Emdin Awarded Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship

May 21, 2026

On May 12, Daniel Emdin became the second member of his immediate family to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, and he is the only student in the Commonwealth to do so this year. This prestigious award provides last dollar funding to community college students pursuing bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Daniel Emdin was surprised with the news just a few weeks after graduating with an associate degree in Chemistry from Community College of Philadelphia.

“I was extremely grateful for the CCP community,” Daniel said. “Each and every single person I interacted with from the students to administration served as contributing factor towards this achievement so thank you to the Community College of Philadelphia.”

In addition to his studies at CCP, Daniel also served as president of both the Student Government Association (SGA) and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, and he is the president and co-founder of the College’s chapter of the American Chemical Society. Daniel has also further developed his leadership skills by being part of the Catto Scholars program, the Center for Male Engagement, Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership and the Project Career Launch Mentorship Program.

As for next steps, Daniel plans to attend University of Pennsylvania to major in another STEM discipline like Chemistry or Public Health. “The end goal is to become a physician policymaker,” Daniel said. “So, I plan to get an MD degree, doing an MD joint program with master of Public Health pathways.”

CCP is proud to have been part of Daniel’s academic pathway and can’t wait to see where he will continue to grow. This scholarship opportunity is one of the most competitive in the country, and Daniel is incredibly deserving. Please join us in celebrating this huge success.
