Real Estate Proficiency Certificate

Description:

The Real Estate Proficiency Certificate is an 18-credit hour credential for students who are interested in becoming real estate salespersons, investors, or property managers; all career paths that do not require an associate or undergraduate degree. This certificate is also appropriate for individuals who currently hold a real estate license and who wish to learn more detailed information about areas of real estate that are not a primary focus in the Real Estate Practice and Real Estate Fundamentals courses. Students are introduced to real estate principles, sales, practices, law, property management, investments, and financing. The Real Estate Proficiency Certificate supports preparation for the Real Estate Salesperson licensing examination.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Real Estate proficiency certificate, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate basic principles of real estate that are related to the role of government and laws, real property, private rights and interest in land, contract law, financing, license law, and regulations that impact real estate licenses.
  • Analyze the use of different types of lending institutions for commercial, industrial, and residential property, such as savings and loans, the Federal Housing Administration, banks, conventional loans, and Veteran Affairs.
  • Explain principles of real estate investments, risks, financing, and how to leverage benefits for direct and group benefits.
  • Analyze the valuation of procedures and property descriptions for residential and commercial applications through practical applications and appraisal math, and the application of the cost approach for real estate.
  • Analyze laws related to rental properties, survey rentals, and housing needs within various geographical areas.
  • Identify the techniques, procedures, regulations, and ethics that are involved in real estate transactions including fair housing, listings, settlements, and surveys, and the forms and documents that are used in real estate transactions.

 

Program Entry Requirements:

The Real Estate Proficiency Certificate is open to interested students. New students are normally required to take the College’s placement test at their time of entry. Students who are identified as needing developmental course work must satisfactorily complete the appropriate English and mathematics courses as part of the certificate when applicable.

Program of Study and Graduation Requirements:

Successful completion of the program requires a "C" grade or better in each of the courses listed in the program.
