This course introduces students to the science of pharmacology. Emphasis is placed on the mechanisms of action for selected drugs from each pharmacological class, their therapeutic value, adverse reactions, pharmacodynamics, routes of administration, metabolism and excretion as they are related to specific disease processes. Understanding the process of drug development and testing from preclinical studies to clinical trials. Provisions of U.S. drug law and enforcement agencies are reviewed.
