Biomedical Technician Training Program: A Partnership of the Wistar Institute and Community College of Philadelphia

The Biomedical Technician Training (BTT) Program at The Wistar Institute offers Community College of Philadelphia students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on learning experience in the field of basic and applied biomedical research The program offers students a structured path toward research technician careers through courses at Community College of Philadelphia and supervised, hands-on- laboratory experience at the Wistar Institute or an affiliated training site.

The laboratory component takes place the summer after the first and second year of classes at the College.

Those who have completed the Biomedical Technician Training program may continue their training by enrolling in the Biomedical Research Technician (BRT) Apprenticeship. The BRT Apprenticeship offers apprentices a clear career pathway to becoming advanced biomedical research technicians through intensive paid training.

Steps to Apply

  • Apply to the College
    Interested students must take the Steps to Enrollment to become a student at CCP. When applying, students should state their interest in the Biomedical Technician Training Program. 
  • Applicants must complete the following courses to enter this program: English Composition (ENG 101), Applied Computer Technology (CIS 103), College Chemistry (CHEM 121), and Principles of Biology/Cell & Molecular (BIOL 123).
