A YEAR OF VIRTUAL ENGAGEMENT

Virtual Scholarship Ceremony

The Foundation hosted a Virtual Scholarship Ceremony in November 2020 for scholarship donors and recipients. Students contributed photos and video messages to thank benefactors responsible for their scholarship awards, giving donors the opportunity to hear firsthand the impact of their generosity.

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday

During the Foundation’s first-ever Giving Tuesday campaign in December, the community came together in a big way with donors giving more than $12,000. At the end of a particularly challenging year with the pandemic, the success of Giving Tuesday was especially meaningful.

Virtual Trivia Nights

To engage the community and raise funds for student scholarships, the Foundation held two Virtual Trivia Nights with Mayor Jim Kenney. Participants got to show off their knowledge of Philadelphia and women’s history during fun competitions in December and March. Nearly $12,000 was raised to support students.

Black and Gold Gala

On June 23, the Philadelphia community came together virtually for the annual Black & Gold Gala hosted by the Foundation. It was the most successful Gala yet, with over $401,000 raised for scholarships.

EMPLOYEE GIVING

During the Faculty and Staff Giving Challenge in the spring, College employees contributed and raised over $4,000 for the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation. Dr. Rick S. Hock, Assistant Professor, Biology, and Science Specialist, Learning Lab, generously committed a $1,000 matching gift for the Giving Challenge.

Employee volunteers helped make the campaign a success by sharing why they give, including Dr. Faye Allard, Dominick Dalanni, Angela Miles, Nicole Vadino, Jalyn Warren, and Dr. Rick Hock, who also generously committed a $1,000 matching gift for the Giving Challenge.

“My leadership contributions to Community College of Philadelphia began upon the passing away of my beloved wife Susan Wexler - a Community College of Philadelphia graduate! In reflecting upon my donations in her memory, I can say that it has brought me deep comfort at a time of profound sadness. Knowing that Susan’s passing is enabling our students to pursue their dreams and aspirations is a fitting tribute to her life and to my long tenure at the College.”
— RICK HOCK | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
SCIENCE SPECIALIST, LEARNING LAB DEPARTMENT

“I chose to donate because, as a first-generation college graduate (and CCP graduate!), I understand the struggles that many of our students face and wish to ease the burden of affording higher education. Finally paying off my last student loan after 20 years was a wonderful feeling! If this support can lessen the burden that students may face, then it is worth the small sacrifice.”
— JALYN E. WARREN | ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, LIBRARY;
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES/WEB LIBRARIAN

“At first we gave to the Fund for Student Success not knowing the stories of the students’ lives we were impacting. Then we attended a scholarship event and the students spoke about how much the donors impacted their lives and the lives of their families….we were really impacted by their heartfelt stories and think about them to this day.”
— DOMINICK DALANNI | ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES MANAGER
