Inspiring Through 'Happi Talk': College Alumni Offer Tips On Becoming Your Own Boss

WHAT: Think TEDTalks, with a Community College of Philadelphia twist. The College presents “Happi Talks” (Hear Amazing People Presenting Inspiration), and the first in its free Alumni Speaker Series will showcase three successful alumni – Darrell Dorsey, founder of the Dorsey Investment Group; Chet Riddick, President and CEO of Alpha Enterprise Group and Mindy Solkin, founder, owner and head coach of The Running Center. These entrepreneurs will discuss their triumphs and challenges, and how to become your own boss. Happi Talks differs from standard business presentations in that the entrepreneurs will deliver them individually and without notes, a la the internationally popular TEDTalk format.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 12, 4 to 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Community College of Philadelphia Center for Business and Industry, Room C2-28, located on the corner of 18th and Callowhill streets.

WHO: Darrell Dorsey, Founder, Dorsey Investment Group (Class of 2010): Dorsey’s company purchases distressed mortgages and restructures loans to help borrowers stay in their homes

Chet Riddick, President/CEO, Alpha Enterprise Group (Class of 1977): Alpha Enterprise Group, named three consecutive years to the BE 100s: The Nation’s Largest Black Businesses by Black Enterprise magazine, has provided office supplies, furniture and energy-saving lighting systems to area businesses.

Mindy Solkin, Founder/Owner/Head Coach, The Running Center (Class of 1974): Solkin, the creator of the Polar Heart Bra, has coached more than 12,000 runners. The bra features a built-in heart rate monitor.
