Dr. Generals will be joined by Derrick A. Perkins and Dr. William R. Hite, Jr. to explore the role that community colleges can play in leading the way forward

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia President Dr. Donald Guy Generals will be joining a panel hosted by the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges to discuss the disproportionate effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on low-income, underrepresented, and marginalized communities – with an emphasis on Black male students. Titled COVID-19 Effects on Black Male Students, the panel will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28.

Moderated by Linda García, executive director of the Center for Community College Student Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin, panelists will share outcomes of African American students’ experience during the pandemic with a specific focus on the impact the sudden disruption to and cessation of face-to-face course instruction has had on Black male students.

Panelists will also share best practices for supporting Black male students’ return to campus; examine the long-term educational impact on students of color whose final years of high school were disrupted; and discuss the role that community colleges can play in leading the way forward.
