Catto Scholars will pave the way for fellow students as Inaugural Student Cafe Executive Officers
PHILADELPHIA – On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Saxbys proudly opened their latest location inside Community College of Philadelphia’s (CCP) new Library and Learning Commons. The location marks many firsts, with it being the first at a community college in Pennsylvania, and the Inaugural Student Cafe Executive Officers (Student C.E.O.) both being Octavius Catto Scholars.
In partnership with Mayor Jim Kenney and the City of Philadelphia, the Octavius Catto Scholarship provides free tuition and additional financial and social support for eligible Community College of Philadelphia students. Nyrair Brooks and Imira Roussaw spoke at the event, which included food, fun, and a limited-edition giveaway for the first 250 guests.
“The College is excited to officially open the newest Saxbys cafe in the heart of our campus,” said Community College of Philadelphia president Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals. “This cafe falls in line with our overall mission of providing students with hands-on educational and entrepreneurial opportunities to enrich their classroom learning. We have found a true partner in Saxbys and look forward to witnessing all that our students will accomplish over the school year.”
The launch of the latest Experiential Learning Platform (E.L.P.) cafe at CCP ties in seamlessly with the institution’s commitment to providing educational and hands-on learning opportunities to all Philadelphians, as it creates a culture on campus that empowers students to take what they learn in the classroom and turn it into tangible experience, running their own business to serve their campus community and the community at large.
“As a longtime supporter and Foundation Trustee of the Community College of Philadelphia, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact the College has had advancing the lives of Philadelphians,” said Nick Bayer, Founder & CEO of Saxbys. “As such, it's a great honor to partner with CCP to bring our Experiential Learning cafe to campus. Our Inaugural Student Cafe Executive Officers - Nysair and Imira - both of whom are Octavius Catto Scholars, are stars in the making. In addition to Bayer, the event included remarks by College President Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals; College Board of Trustees Chair Harold T. Epps; Dr. David E. Thomas, College vice president of Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement; and Arielle Norment, interim dean for the College’s Division of Business & Technology.
The first 250 guests to visit the cafe will also receive a Saxbys ‘Greatest Hits’ voucher which will highlight guests' favorite menu items and feature four weeks of giveaways. Until October 4, for every purchase made using the Saxbys app, guests will be automatically entered to win ‘Free Cold Brew for a Year.’
