Community College of Philadelphia, Saxbys to Announce Student-Run Experiential Learning Cafe

Located in the College’s brand-new Library and Learning Commons, this will be Saxbys’ first Experiential Learning Platform at a community college

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia and Saxbys have announced that they will soon launch an Experiential Learning cafe inside the College’s brand-new Library and Learning Commons. The partnership is part of Saxbys’ Experiential Learning Platform (E.L.P.), which are cafes designed for and run by students. With 13 E.L.P.s across the Mid-Atlantic region, this will be the first student-run cafe at a community college. An invite-only ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25 at Bonnell Building, Level 1, 1700 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA 19130.

During the ceremony, attendees will hear from College and Saxbys leaders on the importance of providing community college students with tangible work experiences, transferable skills, and the opportunity to make an impactful difference in their community. There will also be a tour of the brand-new cafe set to officially open in spring 2022.

Established in 2015, E.L.P.s support students by providing them with in-depth entrepreneurial opportunities to enrich traditional classroom learning. Each cafe is run by a Student Cafe Executive Officer (SCEO) who earns invaluable leadership experience in addition to full academic credit and competitive wages. The SCEO runs and manages all aspects of the cafe including team development, community outreach initiatives, and the cafe's profit and loss statements.

Both the College and Saxbys are committed to empowering students to take charge of their futures through the development of social, managerial, and leadership skills necessary to succeed in modern business environments.
