PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia will host a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Learning event on Monday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. via Zoom.

The watch-and-learn event, “A Community That Cares: Living the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” will feature a moderated discussion followed by a livestreamed viewing of John Lewis: Good Trouble, the documentary highlighting the life of the late congressman and civil rights leader. Dr. Donald Guy Generals, College president; faculty; and staff representing various College offices and programs, including the Center for Male Engagement, Women’s Outreach and Advocacy Center, Single Stop, Black Studies, and the Institute of Community Engagement and Civic Leadership, will speak about their programs and how they embody Dr. King’s mission. Students will also lead readings from Dr. King’s work.

The event is part of the College’s ongoing Enough is Enough teach-in series, dedicated to advancing social justice, and is presented in conjunction with the College’s Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership and Global Citizen’s Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

The College has also provided students, faculty and staff with a list of opportunities and resources for additional ways to get involved and give back to commemorate the holiday. The list includes links to support social justice organizations, book donations purchased from Black-owned book stores to support 6th and 7th grades at Laura W. Waring School, and more.
