Community College of Philadelphia to Host Ribbon Cutting, Open House for Spring Garden Records Studio

In addition to a tour of the new studio, the event will feature live performances by Spring Garden Records artists a.m.bii and The Mini Q’s 

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia has announced that it will host a ribbon cutting and open house to officially launch the new Spring Garden Records Studio. The event will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, June 6 in the Mint Building, room M2-08, 1700 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. The main entrance to the Mint Building is located on Spring Garden Street, between 16th and 17th Streets.  

The studio, home to the College’s Sound Recording and Music Technology program and Spring Garden Records artists, offers a hybrid analog and digital workspace to record and produce music. In addition to the ribbon cutting and tours, there will be live performances by Spring Garden Records artists a.m.bii and The Mini Q’s, and a drum solo by College President Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals. 

Welcome remarks will be provided by Dr. Generals; Dr. David E. Thomas, College vice president for Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement and manager of Spring Garden Records; Dr. Chae Sweet, dean of Liberal Studies; and Paul Geissinger, head of the College’s Music Department and director of Spring Garden Records.  

The studio was designed by VSBA Architects, with acoustical design by Metropolitan Acoustics.  

A few features of the new studio include: 

Allen & Heath GSR-24M console with Barefoot Sound MicroMain 27 and Adam A77X/ Sub 15 monitoring, and utilizes Apogee Symphony I/O and Hear Technologies Headphone Monitoring; 
Some of the most sought-after hardware synthesizers, from modern Moog, Oberheim and Elektron offerings to vintage Korg and Yamaha polysynths; 
A large selection of Eurorack modular synthesizers; 
Outboard gear, including a mix of industry standard and boutique signal processing, including a Bettermaker C502V equalizer that sits alongside a SSL G Comp bus compressor, the Thermionic Culture Vulture, API 560s, elysia Karacter and Avalon 737s; 
Mic closet with a large selection of condenser, ribbon and dynamic microphones; and 
Live room that includes a Whisper Room with various drum and cymbal choices, guitar and bass amps, and a 1926 Steinway model L grand piano 

The College is currently accepting applications for its Artist in Residence (AIR) program. The year-long residence will serve as a public facing art initiative engaging students and the public through experiential learning opportunities. Applications for the residence are due Friday, June 10.
