The event will welcome incoming and returning Octavius Catto Scholars onto campus 

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia announced that it will host the Catto Family Reunion to welcome new and returning cohorts of the Octavius Catto Scholars onto campus. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Winnet Student Life Courtyard, 1700 Spring Garden Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19130. The entrance to the Winnet Student Life Courtyard can be accessed on 17th Street between Spring Garden and Callowhill Streets.  

At the event, Catto Scholars will have the opportunity to connect with their peers, meet the entire Catto Scholarship staff, learn more about resources at the College, and experience campus life at Community College of Philadelphia. Attendees will be able to enjoy games, swag, and giveaways. The College will also be honoring students who earned at least a 3.2 GPA during the event.  

Remarks will be provided by Mayor Jim Kenney; Dr. David E. Thomas, College vice president for Strategic Initiatives & Community Engagement; Dr. April Voltz, executive director for the Octavius Catto Scholarship and associate vice president for Strategic Initiatives & Community Engagement; Catto Scholarship Success Coaches; and student speakers.  

Live music will be provided by Spring Garden Records artist DJ June Rodriguez.  

A partnership between Community College of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia, the Octavius Catto Scholarship is an anti-poverty initiative designed to put more Philadelphians on the path to success at the College and beyond. Combining last-dollar funding with special wrap-around support services, the program addresses obstacles like tuition and fees as well as burdens that hit many Philadelphians – especially those living in poverty – particularly hard, including costs associated with food, transportation, and books.
