PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia (College) will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new Career and Advanced Technology Center on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.
A small number of invited speakers will participate in the socially-distanced event at the building site, located at 4725 Chestnut St. in West Philadelphia. It will also be livestreamed by the College on its Facebook page at facebook.com/CCPedu so the entire College community will be able to participate.
The facility will become the primary teaching hub for the following programming: Transportation and Logistics Technologies, Advanced Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Health Care, Entrepreneurship and the Pre-College STEM Academy. The new building will allow for expanded academic and workforce-related programming for students, in addition to opportunities to serve the community in West Philadelphia.
The celebratory event will include remarks from the following individuals: Dr. Donald Guy Generals, College president; Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney; Jeremiah White, chair, College Board of Trustees; Dr. Ellyn Jo Waller, president, College Foundation; Anuj Gupta, chief of staff, Congressman Dwight Evans; Jabari Jones, president, West Philadelphia Corridor Collaborative; and Chris Peterson, customer service operations manager, Toyota. Additionally, speakers will be invited to participate in a socially-distanced ceremonial shovel dig to kick off building construction.
