Effective Oct. 1, all College faculty and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, effective Jan. 18, 2022, all students must be fully vaccinated

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia today announced that effective Friday, Oct. 1, all College faculty and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to return to campus. All students must be fully vaccinated by Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 – the beginning of the spring 2022 semester. Students, faculty, and staff will be able to apply for a medical or religious exemption.

“With the most recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Philadelphia and across the country, requiring COVID-19 vaccines is an important step in keeping the College community safe,” said College President Dr. Donald Guy Generals. “Studies are showing that the delta variant is not only more contagious, but is devastating young, unvaccinated African Americans between the ages of 20 and 34. With 72 percent of the College population identifying as people of color, we must do everything in our power to ensure that we are taking the proper precautions as we return to campus this fall. Vaccines save lives and it is our responsibility to get vaccinated to protect ourselves and those around us.”

Beginning Oct. 1, all College students who are not already fully vaccinated, and faculty and staff who qualify for a valid exemption to vaccination, will be subject to regular COVID-19 testing. Individuals that test positive will not be permitted on campus.

Beginning Jan. 18, students who are not fully vaccinated, and who do not qualify for a medical or religious exemption, will not be permitted onto campus and will be encouraged to take classes online. All students, faculty, and staff who qualify for a medical or religious exemption will be subject to regular COVID-19 testing and must produce a negative test to enter College facilities. Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will immediately be asked to leave campus.

Students, faculty, and staff will be required to provide proof of vaccination. The College will be offering counseling services to individuals who are interested in learning more about their options as it relates to the vaccine. Additionally, Vybe Urgent Care, located at 1500 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA 19130, will continue to offer vaccines free of charge.

Masks will be required on College facilities through the fall semester for all students, faculty and staff, regardless of vaccination status. The College will continue to enforce six-foot social distancing and will be operating at 50 percent capacity this fall.
