Putting our Knowledge to Work

Berna-Dike-AnyiamWant to know how to troubleshoot problems on your computer and keep your PC running smoothly? The students from the Computer Information Systems program at Community College of Philadelphia can and will show you how.

Dr. Berna Dike-Anyiam, assistant professor in the College’s Computer Technologies department, collaborated with her students to create a program that offers free computer training workshops.

During each “Don’t Be Afraid of Your Computer Workshop,” a student gets the chance to be a professor for a day while the other students walk around and attend to participants at the 36 workstations. Through this program, students are not only giving back to the community, they are developing skills they can take with them when they enter the workforce.

“Students are excited to be the professor, and it also looks great on their résumé as work experience,” she said.

Dr. Dike-Anyiam and her students offer a workshop each semester in her classroom. Since spring 2016, about 80 people have registered for the workshop.
