For students, understanding current world events is paramount for success in today’s global economy. Many faculty members have participated in grant-funded professional development workshops around the world, bringing back knowledge that is then integrated into several course areas. The College also offers study abroad opportunities for students each year, allowing them to study a foreign language, explore historical sites and experience another country and culture firsthand. The Center for International Understanding provides a structural framework upon which the College can further its achievements in promoting international understanding.
Mission
Community College of Philadelphia’s Center for International Understanding promotes knowledge and appreciation of a diverse and interdependent world. The Center encourages and supports the integration of international content into courses and curricula, as well as student and faculty experiential learning abroad. To foster student achievement and enrichment, the Center supports faculty development and research. Drawing upon rich resources within the College and among outside organizations, businesses and individuals, the Center initiates and sustains projects to benefit the entire College community and to serve local, national and international needs.
International Education Week, Nov. 13–16
We’re celebrating our global CCP community with informative and fun events. International Education Week is a nationwide event that focuses on the benefits of international education. Stop by our table in the Bonnell Lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, to get information for the week and take a selfie with the giant globe! Roary will also be available for photos on Monday from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Global Citizen Panel – 1 to 2 p.m. | Room S2-3
Are you a “global citizen,” or do you think you might like to become one? Find out about “Global Citizens of CCP,” a new CCP student club that aims to facilitate dialogue among international students and between international and domestic students.
In collaboration with the International Student Club and the Global Ambassador group, Global Citizens of CCP will be a forum for discussing ideas to enhance the experience of CCP international students, to promote appreciation of other cultures and to discuss real-world issues of global significance.
Club goals:
- Engage in community service by volunteering at cultural centers around Philadelphia and working with internationally focused organizations, such as those that assist refugees
- Promote the benefits of speaking multiple languages to CCP students
- Helping interested students to find conversation partners
- Hosting informal multilingual conversation events
