Student and College Responsibility in Determining Eligibility for Graduation

As early as possible during the student's final term (regular semester or summer session), the Office of Student Records and Registration will notify each applicant for graduation of the possibility of completing his/her degree requirements. Such notification will be in the form of a return response letter. In order to be sure that the name and the curriculum appear correctly on the diploma, the letter must be returned by the student, if there is any incorrect information. Notice of the graduation application deadline will be made available through various means, such as mid-term grades, the cable television station, the student newspaper, and campus postings.

A prospective graduate is one who, at the beginning of a term is registered for enough courses that, upon successful completion of those courses, will have completed all the requirements for graduation from his/her program of study.

The Office of Student Records and Registration, using criteria established for the various curricula, will determine whether all the requirements for graduation have been met.

Issuance of Diplomas

Diplomas will be issued as soon as possible after the completion of the student's final term. In the case of a student completing requirements in the spring term, the diploma will carry the date of the commencement exercises at the end of that term. In all other cases, the diploma will carry the date of the official last day of examinations for the particular term.

Graduation Ceremonies and Program Listings

With the exception noted below, students who complete their degree requirements at the end of Summer Session II, Fall, and Spring Terms of an academic year will be invited to the graduation ceremonies at the end of that Spring Term. Their names will be listed in the commencement program of that year.

Students who, in the judgment of the Director of Student Records and Registration, are reasonably certain of completing their degree requirements at the end of Summer Session I, have the option of attending the ceremonies which take place just prior to the beginning of Summer Session I or those of the following Spring.

Under special circumstances, students enrolled in courses during Summer Session II or Fall, which will result in the completion of curriculum requirements, will be permitted to attend the ceremonies that take place at the conclusion of the preceding spring term. A written request for permission to attend commencement ceremonies should be submitted to the Dean of Student Systems.

Status of Students Who Have Graduated

Students may not re-enroll in the curriculum from which they have already graduated.
