FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

This memorandum supersedes College Policies and Procedures Memorandum No. 127 of April 30, 1985 resulting from Board of Trustees action of April 4, 1985. The April, 1985 session revised original Board action of November 1, 1984.

The Board of Trustees of Community College of Philadelphia will make available a two-year scholarship for one outstanding graduate from each public or non-public, registered or licensed, diploma-granting high school* in the City of Philadelphia. These scholarships will come in the form of free tuition at the College for students who plan to enroll as full-time students in programs leading to the Associate Degree.

The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:

  1. Must be in the top ten percent of the graduating class as of the end of the Fall term prior to graduation;

  2. Be recommended by the high school principal;

  3. Be recommended by at least one high school counselor and one senior high school faculty member;

  4. Must demonstrate evidence of initiative, accomplishment or leadership in at least one high school or community activity.

The Scholarship will be awarded by March 1 and announced at appropriate ceremonies at each school.

*The Robert S. King Scholarship eligibility list will be established each academic year using the Public Schools of Philadelphia Directory listing public high schools in the City of Philadelphia and the non-public schools eligibility will be established each year by using the following education directories published by the Pennsylvania Department of Education: The Directory of Non-Public/Non-Licensed Schools and the Directory of Licensed Private Academy Schools.
