Prospective Students

Filing Deadlines

The priority filing deadline is April 15. Federal financial aid awards are handed out on a first come, first serve basis. It is very important to apply for FAFSA as soon as possible. In addition, three out of every 10 students are picked to go through a verification process. The Department of Education uses this process to determine the accuracy of information on FAFSA forms. Verifying information takes more time for your application to be processed, which is another reason to complete your application as soon as possible.

PHEAA Grant absolute dealine: May 1

*For those students who have been selected for income verification, these deadlines are for complete applications. All required documentation must be submitted to the Financial Aid office of the College by the above listed deadlines. Applications should be mailed at least two months prior to these deadlines.

We cannot guarantee that there will be funds available for students applying after these dates, but we will continue to review late applications until all funds have been awarded.

Federal Stafford Loan

The Federal Stafford Loan Application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid should be mailed at least two months prior to the start of the semester for which the loan will be used.

Information concerning summer aid is available at the Financial Aid Office in early spring.

For detailed information and applications, please contact the Financial Aid Office, BG-3, at (215) 751-8270 or 8271.

PLEASE NOTE: Federal regulations require that schools have academic progress policies for students receiving federal financial aid. Again, students should carefully read the Policy on Academic Standards and Progress on pages 23-26 of the College's Printed Catalog. This policy also defines illegally repeated courses; financial aid will not pay for these classes.

In addition, students who attended another college or technical school may need to submit Financial Aid Transcripts - regardless of whether financial aid was received - from each institution attended. Those who transfer to Community College of Philadelphia from another college must have the Financial Aid Office send Financial Aid Transcripts to the College before financial aid can be processed.

Attendance is required in all classes for which a student is registered. If a student never attends a class, the financial aid will be adjusted to reflect only those classes the student attends. This adjustment could affect a student's financial aid eligibility. Students will have to repay any overpayments.

Furthermore, the federal regulations state that students may receive federal funds for only one academic year (30 credits) of developmental classes, except for courses relating to English as a Second Language. Therefore, if a student had registered for 30 credits of developmental course work, the student will not be able to receive federal funds for additional development courses.
