Dual Admissions Programs
Intent FormEach student must complete an intent form in order to notify both the College and the intended transfer school of their interest in the Dual Admissions program. Completion of the intent form generates a letter from the College and a letter of conditional acceptance from your selected four-year school.
Intent forms may be obtained in the Educational Support Services Division, West Building, 1st floor, Room #1 (W1-1). Intent forms are also available in the Counseling Center (W2-2) and at the Regional Centers.
Academic RequirementsYour GPA is calculated from the quality points received for completed college-level courses. To see how this figure is calculated, please refer to the "Student Information and Policies" section of the College catalog. A 4.0 is the highest GPA you can earn, which means you are an "A" student. A 2.0 ("C" average) is the minimum GPA you need to graduate from Community College of Philadelphia. Each four-year school has a minimum GPA requirement for entrance as a dual admissions student, which can be found on the chart for summary information. However, for certain select majors, GPA requirements may be higher. An advisor can talk with you about specific majors and the GPA you need to transfer into certain programs.
Application ProcessThe special dual admission application is form can be obtained from the Educational Support Services division. Applications to selected transfer schools are usually completed the semester you are planning to graduate from the College. Your completed application will be sent with an official Community College of Philadelphia transcript to the four-year school. There is no application fee and no transcript fee. However, if you have attended any other college, you must request and pay for an official transcript to be sent to your transfer school. You are also required to send your high school transcript.
Enrollment DeadlineEnrollment dates for transfer schools vary, but for most of the Dual Admission programs, you must enroll within one year of graduation from Community College of Philadelphia. You cannot attend any other institution before enrolling if you want to maintain your eligibility for the program.
ScholarshipsScholarships are attached to each of the Dual Admission programs. The amount of money you are awarded is dependent upon your GPA; the higher your GPA, the greater your scholarship award. Scholarships are not awarded until the transfer school receives a final Community College of Philadelphia transcript showing your earned degree. The College will send your transcripts free of charge.
Support ServicesAdditional support services are provided to help you prepare for a successful transfer experience, such as advising meetings with transfer school staff.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will all my courses transfer? It is possible
that all your college-level courses in which you earned a "C" or better
will transfer. Coursework taken toward the Associate in Arts (A.A.) and
Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees transfer more easily, enabling you
to transfer to a four-year institution with junior status. You can still
transfer into your four-year school with an Associate in Applied Science
(A.A.S.) degree, but you may have to take extra courses at your transfer
school. For any degree, it is wise to obtain a transfer sheet so you know
what specific courses you should take at the College. Community College
of Philadelphia has other educational agreements with four-year schools
that may complement the Dual Admission programs. Transfer guidelines are
available on-line and in the Career and Transfer Center (W2-3). If a transfer
guideline is not available for a particular transfer institution or specific
program, you can make an appointment to talk with a counselor.
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree is for those who plan to pursue
baccalaureate or professional studies in liberal arts, communications,
education, the arts, or business.
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is for those who plan to pursue
baccalaureate studies in the natural, physical, or computer sciences.
The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) is for those who plan to follow
a technological or other career program leading directly to employment.
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) is the degree
earned at a four-year college or university.
If for whatever reason you do not complete your degree at the College, you are no longer eligible for the Dual Admission program. However, you may follow the regular transfer process and compete with other students trying to transfer to a particular school.
What are my options if I am not eligible for the Dual Admission Program? If earning too many credits has made you ineligible for enrollment in the Dual Admission programs, you are still allowed to follow the regular transfer process of that school. If failing to earn the required GPA makes you ineligible, you would not be accepted at the transfer school.
What if I decide not to participlate in the Dual Admission program I signed up for?You may void the agreement at any time with written notification to Community College of Philadelphia and to the transfer school.
Can I sign up for more than one Dual Admission program? You can, but it is better to make a decision on one school as soon as possible. This way, you can take the appropriate courses at Community College of Philadelphia in order to transfer into the program of your choice.
