Advance at College

Community College of Philadelphia offers an exciting dual enrollment program called Advance at College.

Advance at College allows the city's motivated and academically talented eleventh and twelfth grade students the opportunity to take college-level courses while they are still attending high school and seeks to facilitate a successful transition from high school to college.

What are the goals of the program?
  • To provide college-level course opportunities for high school students;
  • To familiarize students with a college environment;
  • To raise awareness of career areas; and
  • To motivate students to attend college upon high school graduation.


How does the program benefit students?
  • Students are provided access to the College's rich array of resources including the Library, Student Academic Computing Center, Tutorial Assistance and Career and Transfer Center.
  • Students gain first-hand experience with college faculty, students, and college-level coursework, thus easing the transition from high school to college.
  • Upon completion of coursework students will have an official college transcript on file. This transcript may be applied toward a Community College of Philadelphia academic program of study or may be transferred to another higher education institution.


Who can participate in the program?
  • Motivated eleventh and twelfth grade students who have demonstrated the academic ability and maturity needed to succeed in a college-level course.
  • Eligible students must possess the academic skills, as evidenced by the College's placement test, needed to meet the challenges of college-level courses. Students are not permitted to enroll in developmental/precollege level courses.


How much does the program cost?
  • Tuition for Advance at College is the College's regular tuition rate. Currently, this is $112.00 per credit. A typical three-credit course would cost $336.00. All College fees are waived for Advance at College students. Textbooks and instructional materials are not included.


How does a student enroll?
  • A special Advance at College Application must be completed. Upon receipt of the application, the College will arrange for a placement test date to determine eligibility.

  • Special dates for testing and special sections of courses can be arranged for groups of high school students.
