Constitutional Rights
A student checks out the Paralegal Student Association’s display on the United States Constitution during the College’s Fox Rothschild Center for Law and Society’s Constitution Day celebration on Sept. 17. Students were able to stop by the display, on the ground floor of the Bonnell Building, and sign a mock copy of the Constitution, pick up a copy of the actual historic document or listen to debates from 1787. The Center also held several seminars focusing on how the Constitution affects current legal issues.
Law Expert Discusses Immigration
Paola Gutierrez Galindo, a lawyer of indigenous law in Oaxaca, Mexico, spoke at the College on Oct. 16 about the reasons there has been a large increase in immigration, both legal and illegal, from Mexico to the United States since the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The event was sponsored by the College’s Center for International Understanding, the Student Life Center and Witness for Peace, a politically independent, nationwide grassroots organization.
New PTK Officers
New officers and members were sworn in to the College’s Phi Theta Kappa Rho Upsilon chapter in a ceremony in the College’s Bonnell large auditorium on Nov. 21. International Fashion and Folklore Celebrated
Resplendent in white, students danced and sang songs from their native lands and also enjoyed international fashions at the International Fashion and Folklore show in the College’s Bonnell Cafeteria on Nov. 23. Students were able to receive information about different clubs, organizations and job opportunities at the College’s annual Student Involvement Day.
