MEDIA ALERT
COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF PHILADELPHIA TO HOLD EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DRILL IN CONJUNCTION WITH PHILADELPHIA POLICE
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 21, 2009—Community College of Philadelphia will hold an emergency preparedness drill in coordination with the Philadelphia Police Department from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, Sept. 25 at the College’s Northwest Regional Center campus at 1300 W. Godfrey Avenue, near Broad Street and Stenton Avenue.
The drill will consist of a simulated crisis scenario. The goal of the drill is to test and sharpen the College’s emergency response plan and communications tools, as well as to enhance the already existing relationship between campus security and external emergency responders. The College conducted a similar drill at its Main Campus at 17th and Spring Garden streets in August 2007.
“While the College has historically been one of the safest campuses in the city in terms of incidents of crime, the College is taking the proactive step of holding another emergency preparedness drill to test and improve our security and communications skills,” said Stephen M. Curtis, president of Community College of Philadelphia.
It is expected the drill will result in minimal disruption to the College and surrounding neighborhood. The drill will take place in a limited area and be tightly supervised and controlled. Safety officers will be in place to monitor the simulation. Greeters and signs will be used to alert students, staff and the public that an emergency drill is taking place.
There may be some inconvenience with normal traffic flow because there will be some staging of Philadelphia Police emergency vehicles in the area. This activity will be managed by the City of Philadelphia.
