Philadelphians take Strides to Ensure Higher Education Opportunities

Philadelphia, September 6, 2005 - Community College of Philadelphia's second annual Set the Pace to Educate event will help make a college degree possible for Philadelphians who need it most. The day of events includes a 5K Run, Walk and Pet 'n' Pal stroll on Martin Luther King Drive (formerly West River Drive), west of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Last year, nearly 200 runners, walkers and their dogs took strides to benefit the students, programs and services at Community College of Philadelphia.

A variety of prizes are available:
  • A 5,000 song iPod valued at $299 will be awarded to the first participant to submit 40 paid registrations.
  • The first man and woman finisher in the 5K run will receive a $75 cash prize.
  • Cash prizes are awarded to the top finishers in seven different age categories.
  • The first 300 registrants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt.
  • Gift bags will be presented to all participants.

Participants can also help students through the Set the Pace to Educate Pledge Challenge. The participant who raises the most total dollars in collected pledges will receive $100. Prizes will also be awarded to the top 5 pledge fund-raisers. To be eligible for the top prize, a minimum of $100 in collected pledges must be received by 8:30 a.m. on October 15.
