Free Job Training To Businesses Through WEDnetPA Grants and Community College Of Philadelphia
With grant money from the Workforce and Economic Development Network
of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA,) Community College of Philadelphia is offering
free job training to local employers. Through WEDnetPA’s “Guaranteed
Free Training Program,” eligible Pennsylvania businesses and out-of-state
companies that relocate to Pennsylvania can access training grants, which
are facilitated through the College and divided into two types: basic
skills and information technology.
The type and scope of each business determines the kind of training covered
by WEDnetPA grants. Community College of Philadelphia expanded its capability
to deliver WEDnetPA grants with the completion of its new Center for Business
and Industry. The College has offered WedNet training to more than 14,000
Philadelphians from 26 different companies.
Basic skills training includes applied mathematics and measurement, computers (basic office and operating system software,) problem solving, blueprint reading, welding, and a variety of other areas. The basic skills grant offers up to $450 for each eligible employee, and the information technology grant offers up to $700 for each eligible employee. Training in e-business/commerce, database development, computer programming, information security, web site design and development, and many other skills are offered through the information technology grant. WEDnetPA recipients include Philadelphia Citypaper-Metroweek Corporation, Delaware Investments, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, and PCI services.
The mission of WEDnetPA is to strengthen the business environment of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by providing a training network that is responsive to employers' workforce development needs.
