Community College of Philadelphia Nomination Procedures for the Presidential Award for Diversity

Community College of Philadelphia has established one (1) annual Presidential Award for Diversity to honor one employee from each of the major employment categories (administrator, classified/confidential, and faculty). Each honoree must be positive role model and have shown outstanding service to the College and the community, thereby advancing the College and the principles of its mission.

Recipients will receive a $1,000 (pre-tax) stipend, an engraved award, and his or her name placed on a Presidential Award Plaque.

Community College of Philadelphia's Diversity Award may be presented to an employee of the College: a faculty, administrator, or staff member who has done the most to foster the improvement of relations and understanding between individuals and groups of different races, cultures, ethnicities, or religions during the previous academic year. Criteria include one or more of the following:

  1. PROMOTE DIVERSITY AWARENESS: Promote, sponsor, create and/or implement active, on-going discussions of tolerance, harmony, respect for differences, and foster better understanding among people.
  2. PROMOTE DIVERSITY TRAINING: Sponsor, participate in developing, and/or implementing diversity training programs for students or staff (with follow-up programming and evaluation).
  3. PROMOTE DIVERSITY SKILLS: Teach communications skills such as active listening, conflict resolution, mediation, and empathy—all within the context of the special challenges of diversity.
  4. PROMOTE DIVERSITY EDUCATION: Initiate a series of multi-cultural events, a lecture series, a book club or a discussion series on issues of diversity.

Nominations should include:
  1. Provide an overview statement of how this individual has demonstrated a consistent and enduring commitment to fostering and promoting harmony, respect, tolerance, acceptance and understanding among or between different ethnic and/or religious groups.
  2. Indicate four personal qualities or attribute of the nominated individual that add to the richness and understanding of different groups within the community and/or the College.
  3. Give examples of specific activities or programs in which the individual has demonstrated leadership by initiating, implementing, participating in, or sponsoring programs which improved relations among various groups within the College community.
  4. What impact has this individual had on the Community College of Philadelphia?

Please send nominations to this e-mail address (pdc@ccp.edu) or to Theresa Tsai, Chair of the Presidential Award for Diversity - M1-22 Counseling Center - by April 17, 2008. Only one nomination per person, nominee need not be from your department.

The recipient will be announced at a "College Honors Tea" on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 4:00 pm in the Rotunda.
