Track 2 - Maintaining Your Business

This series of workshops is designed to support business owners whose businesses have been in existence between one and five years. The Track consists of seven workshops that provide critical information in the important aspects of running a small business.

To receive a certificate for Track 2, participants must complete five workshops. At minimum of three (3) workshops must be from Track 2 with the remaining from the program electives.

Marketing Concepts for Small Business - 6 hours; $85

Marketing Concepts for Small Businesses provides a foundation for developing marketing plans. The Small Business owner will explore market niches and the types of competitive markets, along with strategies for market research. Promotion and selling techniques are also examined.

Understanding Business Taxes - 6 hours; $125

Taxes are a fact of life when running a small business.  Many small business owners are overwhelmed by the numerous and ever-changing rules regarding taxes, however, it is possible to manage a business effectively and minimize tax liability.  This workshop examines business forms, tax year, business types, and accounting methods.

Fundamental Legal Concepts - 6 hours; $85

Small business owners experience situations everyday that presents potential legal problems. This workshop addresses the basic laws that govern business practices. Participants will learn about fundamental legal issues to include, contracts, the Uniform Commercial Code, the law of agency, and legal issues in hiring employees. Additional topics to be covered include warranties, product liability issues, bankruptcy, fraud and misrepresentation.

Managing Finances and Budgeting - 8 hours; $150

Managing Finances and Budgeting introduces small business owners to the basic documents used to track business performance, namely the balance sheet and the income statement and explains how to create and maintain them. Additionally, this workshop will help attendees assess their business' current income and profitability performance using income statements and combination ratios.  Financial budgeting including sales and cash budgeting will be explored.
