Study Abroad Scholarship Award

The Community College of Philadelphia Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Study Abroad Scholarship Award, which will provide two $500 scholarship awards to two students of Community College of Philadelphia to assist them in meeting their educational expenses related to participation in the College's Study Abroad Program.

Eligibility Criteria

Students meeting all of the criteria listed below will be considered for this award. You must fill out and return your application by February 18, 2008. Please note that, when possible, information submitted will be verified.

  1. Applicant must have completed at least one semester at Community College of Philadelphia and have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at the College by the end of December 2004.
  2. Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits at Community College during spring 2007.
  3. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at the completion of the fall 2008 semester.
  4. Applicant must be attending Community College of Philadelphia on a full-time or part-time basis with a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester, excluding summers.
  5. Applicant must contact Chris DiCapua, Coordinator for Study Abroad, to complete the initial study abroad advising session prior to submitting this application. Chris DiCapua can be contacted at cdicapua@ccp.edu or 215-751-8640.
  6. Applicant must submit a one page, typed essay addressing how participating in the study abroad program will help him/her achieve his/her academic and career goals, and how it will enrich his/her academic experience. The essay is a crucial component in awarding the scholarship.
  7. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation with the application. The letter of recommendation must be written by a Community College of Philadelphia faculty member. Faculty should address the following in the letter: 1) relationship with student (i.e., the class in which the applicant was a student); 2) the student's academic qualifications; and 3) the faculty's impression of the applicant's ability to work successfully with others in a class or group.

Application Procedures

Deadline: Applications are distributed in October. The deadline for submitting an application is February Awards are announced in late February.

The Community College of Philadelphia Foundation must receive completed applications by the deadline to be considered. All applications received by this deadline will be reviewed for completeness and evaluated for eligibility.

Please note that the Study Abroad Scholarship Award is contingent upon the student's participation in the College's Study Abroad Program.
