International Education - Study Abroad
International Education and Studies
Studying in another country, while earning credits towards graduation, can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a student's undergraduate career. Wherever you choose to travel, study abroad will widen your horizons and provide new ways of thinking about the world as you experience a different culture.
Study abroad is a program or courses through which a student completes part of the formal college program while studying in another country. Study abroad can be for the summer, a semester or an academic year. The Coordinator for International Education and Studies can provide students with information and applications for Community College of Philadelphia study abroad programs.
There is also a Study Aboard Scholarship Award established by the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation, to help students participate in study abroad programs.
Information about study abroad programs sponsored by other colleges and universities is also available in the Office of the Coordinator for International Education. Students interested in studying abroad on a non-College program should start the advising process early by contacting the Coordinator for International Education. Students must complete a "Permission to Study Abroad on a non-Community College of Philadelphia Program" form and obtain all necessary approvals.
Students receiving financial aid can usually apply most sources of aid to study abroad fees. The Higher Education Act of 1965, amended in 1980, says that a student enrolled in a formal program of study abroad may be considered for federal financial aid for "reasonable costs" associated with such study. Contact the Financial Aid Office and the Coordinator for International Education for more information about financial aid and other options for financing study abroad.
