Education Program
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." - Henry Adams
An Education Career
Welcome to the Education Curriculum! Your studies in this program will lead to a career in teaching, a lifelong career opportunity. The teaching professional is essential to every society. Future generations, business and industry, government, and the economy all depend on sound education in which teachers play vital roles. If you are a person who likes helping others learn, and you seek to make a positive difference in people’s lives, consider a career in education.
Career Opportunities
America faces a growing shortage of teachers. Our increasingly multiethnic society needs more teachers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Early retirement programs are offering the aging teacher corps opportunities to leave classrooms in large numbers. A June 2004 article in the Philadelphia Inquirer indicates that this is especially true in Philadelphia where both teachers and administrators are retiring in large numbers. Nearly 800 teachers are leaving the Philadelphia School District, of whom about 300 are from high schools. Further, public school retention rates are increasing. These and other factors are creating career opportunities for teachers.
The education profession provides secure employment, steady income, attractive work schedules, and excellent benefits. Advancement and growth opportunities are essentially unlimited. Many teachers find satisfaction in specializations including bilingual instruction, special education, library science, and higher education positions.
