Family Home Visiting - Certificate

The Family Home Visiting certificate program prepares students to provide services for home visits. While most clients receive needed counseling within established institutions, there are many other clients who are unable to visit those institutions. Still others experience a variety of barriers and need help to establish a bridge to agency-based care. This segment of the population needs services provided in the home. Among potential clients are those needing parenting skills, elderly who need support services, and maladaptive families who are at high risk for abuse. Graduates of this curriculum provide these services by working as home health care aides, hospice care workers, and community outreach workers. This program prepares students with an introduction to counseling skills as well as some expertise in areas such as drug and alcohol, gerontology, and domestic violence.

Program Entry Requirement:
Students entering the program are required to demonstrate competency in basic skills by scoring English 101 ready on the College's placement test. Some students, as a part of the program, may be required to complete appropriate developmental English courses. Admission to the program also requires that the student attend a group orienta-tion session or an individual interview with a BHHS faculty member before a decision of acceptance is made. Permission of a full-time BHHS faculty member is required for admission.

Program of Study and Graduation Requirement:
To qualify for the certificate in Family Home Visiting, students must complete 30 credit hours as prescribed and attain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (C average).
