This course is designed to provide the student with an introduction to risk and methods of insurance. The objective of this course is to enable the student to develop an understanding of the many types of exposure to loss, the alternative methods of treating such exposures, and the role of insurance in personal and business affairs. Consideration is given to the legal framework surrounding the insurance mechanism. In addition, the regulation of insurance is discussed.

Principles and practices of business finance with emphasis on problem areas such as capital budgeting, profit determination and distribution, expansion, reorganization and liquidation and the use of funds. Offered in the spring at night and in fall during the day. Prerequisite: ACCT 101.

Investments

This course examines the practices of investing in Equity Securities and Bond Instruments that trade on the Major Stock Exchange and Commodity markets. The operations of the financial market place and the impact of price movement on financial products are discussed. Also included is the application of investment strategy to the assembly of capital through the Initial Public Offering process. This course assists the student in understanding the risks and rewards associated with the investment choices. Prerequisite: FIN 191.
