Please join Philadelphia NOW (National Organization for Women) and the Women's Outreach and Advocacy Center as we celebrate Women's History Month on Friday, March 20, 2015, with a panel discussion titled, Feminism in Philadelphia: Past, Present and Future. This event will take place from 11:20 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. in The Great Hall. Feminism in Philadelphia, written by Dr. Karen Bojar, interweaves the history of feminism in Philadelphia with the broad themes and trajectory of the "second wave" feminist movement. Dr. Bojar relates NOW's vital history as a diverse, grassroots organization, thoroughly integrated into localities--and "made locally." Dr. Bojar's lively evocation explains NOW's success and long life, and more broadly challenges the divide between institutions and mass movements. The panelists will be:
- Karen Bojar, Professor Emerita of English and Women's Studies, Community College of Philadelphia
- Jocelyn Morris, Activist; Founder of Germantown NOW; Board Member of the National Chapter of NOW
- Nina Ahmad, President, Philadelphia NOW; Chair, Mayor Michael Nutter's Commission on Asian Affairs
- Claudia Curry, Director, Women's Outreach and Advocacy Center, Community College of Philadelphia; will serve as moderator
Faculty members are encouraged to bring their students.
To reserve your seat(s), please call the Women's Outreach and Advocacy Center at 215.751.8808 or email womencenter@ccp.edu.
