Excellence in Supervision Certificate

Supervisors today play a critical role in ensuring an organization’s success and productivity. The diverse workforce of today’s organizations and changing economic conditions requires first-line supervisors to have strong skills in communication, interpersonal relations, effective planning, goal setting, coaching and team building. These skill sets form the foundation of the Corporate Solutions Excellence in Supervision Certificate.

This program will prepare the new supervisor, the individual in transition to a supervisory role or the current supervisor desiring a skills update to become a more effective member of their organization’s management team.

Program Location

The Excellence in Supervision workshops are conveniently scheduled at the College’s Center for Business and Industry located at 18th and Callowhill streets.

Certificate Requirements

The certificate is awarded to students who have successfully completed all three modules: Effective Communication Skills, Successful Supervision and Building Effective Teams. Note: The same textbook is required for all three workshops in this program (Management Skills for Everyday Life, Third Edition, Paula Caproni, ISBN: 0-13-610966-7.) You will need the text for the first day of class. You may purchase or rent the textbook online at Amazon.com.

Effective Communication Skills: Creating an Informed and Productive Workforce

At the heart of supervising and managing other people is how you communicate with them. In this workshop, you will learn and practice an effective communication model, active listening techniques, nonverbal communication and presentation skills. You will get feedback from your peers and the instructor on your own communication style. This workshop teaches managers and supervisors how to resolve conflicts, communicate effectively, solve problems and manage positive change in the corporate culture. You will also gain an understanding of why the decisions, behaviors and attitudes of leaders are often misperceived by their employees.
