Child Development Associate

This workshop is intended for child care workers who are currently employed in a licensed Department of Public Welfare center. Participants pay a registration fee only.

Child Development Associate

This workshop, subsidized by the Southeast Regional Key (SERK) and by the Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), enhances the quality of child care by defining, evaluating and recognizing the competence of child care providers. A Child Development Associate (CDA) designation from the National Council for Professional Recognition is awarded to a person who demonstrates full understanding of child development and the assessment process.

You must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to register:

  • Be employed in a DPW licensed child care program
  • Have at least 480 clock hours working directly with children ages birth to five
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED

Students who are awarded the CDA designation may, upon being accepted at Community College of Philadelphia, apply for 6 credit hours in the Early Childhood Education program.These workshops are dependent on the funding allocations from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the competitive bid process of the SERK and the PHMC.
