Benefits of Tech Prep

What will a Secondary Tech Prep partner have to do?

Memorandum of Understanding

In order to insure that the School District of Philadelphia and Community College Tech Prep Partnership will be successful, a participating high school should be willing to agree to the following:

  1. Work after school hours at the high school site and occasionally full planning days at Community College to develop a planned, sequential technical preparation curriculum with integrated academic, occupational and technical content;
  2. Participate with the College Tech Prep staff in the development of a Staff Development Plan which will provide training for all administrators, teachers, counselors and staff involved in the program;
    • Provide a team of teachers with a common group of students in grades 10 through 12 who have common planning time;
    • Provide adequate space (classrooms, etc.) and sufficient technical equipment for the program;
    • Insure that staff development for teachers on the use of technology is provided;
    • Support the restructure of current course offerings in order to meet industry, State, Tech Prep and School District standards and the School District Promotion Graduation Requirements;
    • Provide administrative support to allow team members to attend staff development activities (including reasonable release from class time and the use of substitutes, with teachers and substitute teachers reimbursed for their time by the Partnership) and to travel to conferences;
    • Participate with the College Tech Prep staff in the development of a Career Development Plan for the program that will provide support services to help students persist in the program through graduation from high school and college and entrance into employment. Support services will also address the needs of English as a Second Language (ESOL) and special education students enrolled in the program;
    • Participate with the College Tech Prep staff in the development and implementation of the Tech Prep program with business and industry representatives within the science and technology industry;
    • Actively recruit a targeted group of students who are interested in a Tech Prep Technology preparation course of study in a technical career field;
    • Actively recruit the participation of the parents/guardians of enrolled Tech Prep students and solicit the involvement of the community members;

And finally, agree to contact the Community College Tech Prep staff immediately in the event that at any time the high school determines that it no longer is able to agree to the above.
